Michigan Deputy Killed During Pursuit

Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Overall was struck and killed while outside of his patrol car preparing to deploy Stop Sticks during a pursuit early Thursday morning.

An Oakland County, Michigan Sheriff’s deputy was killed after being struck during a police pursuit early Thursday morning.

Deputy Eric Overall was outside of his patrol car preparing to deploy Stop Sticks on M-15 at the intersection of Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township when the fleeing suspect struck him, according to a news release.

The 22-year veteran of the force was assisting the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit when he was struck. 

The Medical Examiner has ruled the death of the deputy a homicide and that he died of blunt force trauma.The suspect is a 22-year-old male who is currently housed at the Macomb County Jail. He has prior four prior convictions for Possession of Marijuana and a conviction for Resisting and Obstructing Police.

The Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit will be presenting a warrant request to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday.

"It is our belief that from all evidence collected that the suspect deliberately ran down Deputy Overall swerving to hit him," the Sheriff's Office wrote.

The suspect’s vehicle rolled over following the crash and the suspect was taken into custody.
