Texas Sheriff's Deputy Struck, Killed on Highway

A Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputy was struck and killed while removing debris Friday.

A Nacogdoches County, Texas Sheriff's deputy was struck and killed while removing debris from a highway Friday morning.

The deputy was dispatched to U.S. 259 around 6:30 a.m. for debris in the roadway when he was struck by a Toyota Camry, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

The impact of the collision sent the deputy in the southbound lane where he was then hit by a Ford Edge.

The deputy was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Kerry Williamson at the crash scene.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, 57-year-old Benjamin Leadon of Garrison, and his passenger were not injured in the crash.

The driver of the Ford Edge, Cathryn Beel, 69, of Houston, did not sustain any injuries in this crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the crash.
